Mother Knows Best

What's the best advice you've ever gotten from your mom?

Everything she's ever said to me, to be honest.

My mom has always been my biggest inspiration. She is incredibly smart, witty, funny, and hardworking. I could go on and on about her really. She raised four temperamental kids while her husband was working abroad, all while managing a couple of canteens and a catering business. When she isn't balancing all that, she is experimenting with recipes, attending meetings with La Salle, sending me cute stickers on Viber, and brightening someone's day.

My mother is my everything. She inspires me to explore, to experience all the world has to offer and accept it all with grace. She has always made me feel like I was enough, more than enough. No matter how many times I flunked Math class, injured my knee, cried about a bully, stressed about my weight, tried another diet, acted like brat, or didn't exactly end up where I thought I would, she was there to tell me that this too will pass and everything will be okay. She taught me to learn to let little things go and when all else fails, go back to being thankful. She taught us to never let go of our curiosity, our imagination. She told us bedtimes stories and played tickle monster even when we would accidentally whack her. She taught me that I control my happiness and always quoted Eleanor Roosevelt: "No one can make you inferior without your consent".

There's too much I want to thank her for and not enough words to properly express it. There are too many things she deserves that I can't yet give her. Don't worry, mom. I'll send you on that trip around the world one day. <3 But for now, I hope a phone call, a heartfelt message, and a funny photo of us will do.

I love you to the moon and back, mom.
