How Much Does My Face Cost?
I fell in love with makeup in my freshman year of highschool when my makeup skills could be aptly described as "novice drag queen chic". I became quite skilled at packing on the black eyeliner, glittering eyeshadows, using foundation three shades too light, and wearing gaudy lipsticks. It was a wonderful time to be alive, folks.
Thankfully, my high school makeup horror story taught me quite a lot about myself, what I like, what works best for me, and just how magical makeup can be. Since then, it has become my war paint and a huge part of my daily routine. Moisturizer, primer, foundation, highlight, eyeshadow primer, liner, mascara, eyebrow pencil, lipstick. With almost a decade of practice (mostly failure), I've created my own routine, collected my go-to products, and could pretty much do it in my sleep.
A few weeks ago, Buzzfeed posted a feature on Glamour's video comparing the cost of a woman's morning routine to man's. The woman ended up spending nearly $2,000 on all her morning routine products while the man spent about $700. That got me thinking about just how much money I put on my face everyday. Sephora, the magical cosmetics giant, has taken many a paycheck from me (Okay maybe just 10%) and I rarely leave a makeup store without at least one thing so as you can imagine, I've amassed quite the collection of my own morning routine products.

My total comes out to almost $500 spent over the last year and a half on morning routine products. I'm quite sure that's not even completely accurate since that total does not include sales tax and repeat purchases. I adore makeup but after seeing that total, I've decided to steer clear of Sephora and the beauty section of Walgreens for a few months.
